Ajax splits cleanly in two. South of Highway 401, near the lake, much of the stock dates to the late 1940s and 1950s, built quickly for the workforce at the wartime munitions plant. Expect original galvanised supply lines, undersized electrical services, and additions of varying quality. North of the 401 the housing is overwhelmingly 1995–2010 subdivision build: better bones, but the roofs, furnaces and air conditioners from that era are all reaching end of life at once.
